Finally, new bins at Homestead Dam

She also touched on what now needs to happen with the new bins being installed.

The residents that live around Homestead Dam areas are ecstatic over the new dustbins that have been placed around the dam.

Wilge Street resident Katerina Taxer said she noticed the bins for the first time while out on a walk with her Alaskan husky named Matalico.

“My 13-year-old husky and I walk the park daily and use the opportunity to earmark any issues,” she explained.

“Matalico walks up to the bottomless bins to investigate trash that has fallen out. So, last year September, I took a walk around the park and reported all the maintenance that would be required. DA Ward Clr Mary Goby has done a lot thus far, supporting the community and keeping our park clean as well as safe.”

On the morning that Katerina and Matalico took their daily walk, she noticed a truck parked there with a whole lot of colourful bins.

“As usual, because everyone knows me this way, I ran over to the truck and loaded them with questions,” she explained excitedly.

Goby said, “Ekurhuleni contracted a company to sort the bins out. I am very happy they have finally been placed, but I still believe we need a lot more to cover the number of people visiting the park.”

She also touched on what now needs to happen with the new bins being installed.

“We need the bins to be emptied every Monday morning after the weekend. With the warmer weather, more and more residents are visiting the park. We should have a recycling system going on, as most of the waste disposed of is recyclable,” she concluded.

The City Times awaits comment from the metro regarding the disposal of the bins waste.
