As registered voters head to their closest voting stations on November 1 to make their mark in the 2021 municipal elections, the Benoni SAPS has provided personal safety tips.
Local voting stations will be open between 08:00 and 21:00.
The Benoni SAPS spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele, said police will be present at various local stations to ensure the safety of voters.

She said they encourage residents to remember basic safety measures to ensure they exercise their right to vote safely and securely.
“If you will be travelling to the voting station with your vehicle, remember not to leave valuable items in your car and make sure your car is securely locked before walking away. Also, leave expensive jewellery and devices at home,” said Sekele.
“Do not carry weapons or don’t be under the influence of alcohol. Always keep an eye on your surroundings and if you feel unsafe, call for assistance from the officers.”
