A case of business robbery was opened at the Putfontein SAPS after a cellphone store was robbed on October 23 at Mayfield Square around 09:00.
Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Sgt Raider Ubisi said according to the employees, they were busy at the store when about six men entered, pretending to be customers.
“The robbers forced one of the cashiers into the storeroom and demanded keys to the safe. She told them they don’t keep the keys at the store,” said Ubisi.
“It is alleged they opened another shelf which contained cellphones and laptops. Another robber took cash from one of the tills when he pretended to be buying airtime.”
The employees were also robbed of their cellphones.
The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones worth about R100 000.
Police are investigating; no arrests have been made.
