#LiveBeyondDezember yields good results

Several motorists across Gauteng were nabbed for various offences committed on the roads.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) reported that more than 200 000 motorists received traffic fines for violations of various traffic rules since the start of the LiveBeyondDezemba road safety campaign, in December.

RTMC spokesperson Simon Zwane said about 4 500 motorists were arrested for drunken driving, speeding and operating vehicles without driving licences, among other offences.

“The highest number of drunk drivers were caught in Gauteng, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal. The highest number of speedsters were nabbed in the Free State and most vehicles were discontinued by the National Traffic Police,” said Zwane.

Zwane added that all roads leading from holiday spots in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga are expected to be busy in the coming weeks.

Motorists are advised to avoid nighttime travel and the use of back roads on their way home from holidays.

The RTMC would like to call upon members of the public to report reckless and negligent drivers on 0861 400 800 or to send WhatsApp messages to 083 293 7989.
