Members of the Benoni Flying Squad are declaring war on drugs and have enjoyed great success in keeping illicit substances off the street. On January 28, members confiscated 30 large bags of dagga, to the value of R100 000, on the R555 near Etwatwa. “Patrolling members found the dagga hidden under crates that were being transported on a white Isuzu truck. The driver was arrested,” said WO Grant Giblin, communications officer.
“While on the scene, another man was arrested on charges of bribery. He offered officers R5 000 for the release of the driver as well as the dagga.
“We are sending a strong message to anyone thinking they can bribe our members. We will not accept it and you will be charged accordingly.” During further weekend operations in Daveyton, four more suspects were arrested on charges of drug possession; heroin, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine and Mandrax were confiscated. The suspects have been charged and will soon be appearing in court.
