A happy Valentine’s Day for the elderly

The event was held to show appreciation and love to the elderly.

Members of the Samukelo Esihle Community Project enjoyed a delightful Valentine’s Day on February 14.

Dressed in red-and-white attire, they broke into song to show their gratitude when founder of the organisation and organiser of the event Samukelo Tshabalala ascended the podium.

Tshabalala said this event was to make up for the time lost during the Covid-19 lockdown.

“We wanted to show our appreciation and love. Although Covid-19 disrupted many of our programmes in the past two years, we wanted to show that we still care,” she said.

Tshabalala added that at the height of the pandemic, the elderly in the community endured a torrid time as the organisation had to cut its services because of Covid-19 restrictions.

“They have to know that our doors will always be open for them. This is a safe space. It’s a place of love where they can come to have fun.”

Miemie Lentsoane of Glam Events and Catering Company helped with the decor. She told the City Times that it was her way of giving back to the elderly for their years of service to the Daveyton community.

The organisation will host a fun day for the elderly and those living with disabilities in March. The date and time will be confirmed in due course.
