Police arrest dozens in Etwatwa during operation

The suspects have appeared in court.

Police officers from various district police stations conducted a high-density operation in Ewatwa recently as part of their efforts to combat crime.

The operation aimed to address issues of murder, drugs, house robberies, hijackings, roadblock and liquor compliance in Etwatwa.

According to Etwatwa SAPS spokesperson Sgt Khensani Mathebula, some of the successes of the operation included the arrest of a young man who was found to be in possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

“Nine more people were arrested for drug-related crimes while 11 shebeens were closed down. Traffic fines were also issued to motorists during the roadblock. A motor vehicle was also seized after police discovered that the engine had been tampered with,” said Mathebula.

The suspects have since appeared in court.
