Lindelani man arrested on three counts of murder
He appeared in the Benoni Magistrate's Court on March 4 and 8.

A 39-year-old man from Lindelani informal settlement has been arrested on three charges of murder and one of rape.
The arrest took place on March 2 when Det Sgt Kaiser Mbele of the Benoni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), with the help of the Ekurhuleni District Tracing Task Team, tracked the suspect to his home.
“It is alleged that in November the victim and her boyfriend were leaving a tavern when the suspect stabbed the boyfriend,” said Capt Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the Benoni Police Station.

“The victim was dragged into an abandoned street, where she was raped.
“The rape victim, with the support of a friend, identified her assailant and was able to hand all the necessary information to the investigating officer.”
According to Sekele, further investigations were able to positively link the suspect to two separate murder cases committed in the same area.
“The first was reported in May 2011 and the other in December 2020,” she said.

The suspect briefly appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on March 4 and 8.
The case has been postponed to March 22 for the accused to seek legal representation, after which he will appear in the Benoni High Court.
District commissioner Maj-Gen Anna Sithole commended the team’s success, stating the murder rate within the province is alarming and that arrests like these are a result of officers’ diligence.
