Community initiatives assist police

Swift action by community group leads to arrest.

Valuable partnerships between the community and police has resulted in the arrest of a man driving a vehicle that has been positively linked to an armed robbery in Cleveland.

On April 25, members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) received information of a white Hyundai Elantra that was spotted on Terrace Road, Edenvale.

Information of the flagged vehicle came from community monitored cameras.

“Members responded to the information and the driver has been detained,” said WO Grant Giblin, BFS spokesperson.

“This success emphasises the value of partnerships between SAPS and community initiatives.”
