24 top spellers chosen to represent the country in Lesotho

The competition will be held on September 23

Bacha Ba Dichaba Explorers recently held a spelling bee competition at Tshepo Themba Multi Purpose Centre in Etwatwa where 160 learners from various schools in the area took part.

A total of 24 participants were chosen and will represent South Africa at a Lesotho spelling bee competition, set to take place on September 23.

Thabang Lichaba, the founder of the organisation, said the competition has been running for eight years.

“During the eight years we have been working hand-in-hand with government institutions like Ekurhuleni Library, Southern African Association of Youth’s Club (SAAYC), Kingsley Spelling Bee and 100% Foundation.

“Following the success of top spellers in the Limpopo spelling bee last year, we were invited again this year to compete.

“I would like to wish the 24 spellers good luck,” said Lichaba.

One of the participants, Khaya Khumalo said, “The competition wasn’t too difficult for me though at first I was a little bit nervous. I had a good time and I am grateful to the event’s organisers for providing us with this opportunity,” said Khumalo.

Lichaba added that they are in need of donations and sponsorship to fund the participants trip along with 26 executive members from the organisation who will accompany the learners.
