Facts about blood donation
• You can donate blood every 56 days.
• Plasma and platelet donations are collected every two weeks and is done in the same manner as regular blood donations are collected however, booking for specialist donations such as these is essential.
• Platelet and plasma donations are universal and can be used for all patients regardless of their blood group.
• Specialist donations are used especially for oncology patients.
• Blood group A and AB donors are especially encouraged to donate platelets and plasma.
• Blood donor centres have monthly target of 60 units of specialised donations.
• Regular blood donation boosts immunity as new red blood cells generate every 56 days.
