Neglected Smiley ready to love again

With a special diet and lots of love for Smiley, she picked up weight and learnt to trust humans again

We come across dogs that have been treated badly, and you would think that because of what a human has done to that dog, the dog would never learn to trust humans again.

However, this is not the case for Smiley who has been described as a special dog. Smiley was found locked in a cage in Putfontein. She had no blanket, no shelter from the sun, no food and a little bit of water.

According to Benoni SPCA manager, Bronwyn Kleynhans Smiley was so emaciated, that they were not sure she would survive.

The cage Smiley was found in when she was rescued from her owner who subjected her to harsh treatment.

“Our inspector, Tebogo Maswanganye, removed the dog from the irresponsible owner and brought her to the SPCA for better care, and our journey with Smiley began.

“To our greatest joy, Smiley made a full recovery. A special diet and a lot of love later, she picked up weight and learnt to trust humans again, knowing that she was safe and fed.”

Kleynhans said Smiley is now a happy and affectionate dog who is ready to find her forever home.

If you would like to adopt Smiley, visit her at Benoni SPCA, 3 Klein Street, Lakefield, or contact them on 011 894 2814/5.

To contribute in any way to her care, you can donate at the Benoni SPCA branch, or by EFT to Benoni SPCA, FNB, account 54475778429 and branch code 252605. All donations help the SPCA to help more dogs like Smiley.
