Etwatwa youth urged to apply for business funding

Young entrepreneurs were encouraged to apply for NYDA business funding

Young people from Etwatwa Quantum were equipped with useful information during a Youth Business Seminar held at Praise Him Bible Church on June 22.

The event was hosted by Vusi Matladi of the Etwatwa Greening team, in collaboration with the economic development sector of Ward 109.

The session aimed to enlighten young entrepreneurs about how they can grow their businesses.

One of the speakers, Tshepo Manyama of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), said he often hears young people complain that they don’t get funding for their businesses.

“Young people don’t get funding because they don’t apply. NYDA has funding for deserving business people which the youth can utilize by applying for it on NYDA’s portal on the website,” said Manyama.

Another speaker, Siphiwe Ndlovu of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development and Township Economic Development Act (TEDA) said young people should start manufacturing their own products.

“Young people have the energy to run around but older people have the wisdom. If we create our own jobs our communities will never suffer from poverty. Young entrepreneurs need to support each other and in that way, they will conquer the world,” said Ndlovu.

Ekurhuleni Waste Management and Environmental Resources representative, Zodwa Ndhlovu, explained the municipality’s approach to recycling is community-based.

“The municipality is not planning to generate income from recycling because we want the youth to be more active when it comes to such projects. We want to give people bulk bags so that they can put the recycling materials, including paper and bottles, in exchange for money,” said Ndhlovu.
