Learners honoured for hard work
White blazers were only awarded to grade 12 learners based on their academic excellence.
Unity Secondary School, in Daveyton, recently conferred white blazers to its top learners.
For the past five years, learners doing the science stream dominated the top five but things took a twist this year as learners doing commerce are the ones dominating the top five.
The criteria for selection is to obtain a 70% average in term one and maintain the standard during the terms.
The principal of the school, Melody Maseko, said the success of the matriculates demands hard work and patience.
“We are proud of our first term top ten achievers and commend all our educators who taught them from grades eight to 12. We also appreciate the parents and SGB supporting our learners,” said Maseko, who added that success is the milestone achieved after struggles and perseverance.
“It is a vision, a goal and a commitment to furthering your aspirations and goals. It is not granted overnight. The learners must continue to become an inspiration and a beacon of hope to their peers, and those who are in lower grades. Keep up the good work,” said the principal.
“I am delighted to see commerce students emerging and hope that the learners are equipped and ready for their future endeavours.”
