SEIFSA unveils newly revamped centre

The newly renovated technical training centre offers 10 fields of training

For the past 39 years, the Steel and Engineering Industries of Southern Africa (SEIFSA) training centre in Actonville, has been synonymous with delivering world-class training to aspiring artisans.

On July 22, the centre along with industry leaders and representatives from the Department of Higher Education Training celebrated the grand-reopening of the centre.

According to Preggie Chetty, director of Thuthukisa who recently partnered with SEIFSA to manage and develop the centre, the expansion and renovation was undertaken in January 2021 with the vision to further establish it as the leader in technical training centre through its expanded and comprehensive apprenticeship programme.

“We endeavour to offer students with multidisciplinary expertise which also offers them the opportunity to become master artisans with market related knowledge thus creating clearer career paths within the industry,” said Chetty.

“Our focus will include assisting newly developed artisans to become entrepreneurs within the 10 fields of accredited trade training.”

Lucio Trentini, SEIFSA CEO, said that the centre aims to empower youths within key technical trades, in order to tackle the scurge of unemployment.

“We are committed to developing today’s workforce for tomorrow,” said Trentini.

“We have a proud history spanning nearly 80 years and hope that in adapting to current requirements of training, will ensure that knowledgeable artisans are ready to take up vital roles within the employment pipeline.”
