Fairleads Retirement Village resident Eliza Pretorius joyfully added another candle to her birthday cake as she turned 98 on July 27.
Pretorius celebrated her special birthday with caregivers at the home, her daughter and two of her great-grandchildren, Kerry and Erin Green, who showered her with presents and treats.
The birthday girl was overcome with tears of joy when she reminisced some of her fond childhood memories with the City Times.

She was born in Smithfield in Free State where she used to ride on a donkey cart when going to school. She is a qualified nurse and used to work at Queenstown General Hospital as a midwife.
“When I got married to my husband, who died in 1947, I retired from work. I was blessed with two children, a girl and a boy,” she said.
Pretorius, who has been a resident of Fairleads Retirement Village since 2017, was featured in the Benoni City Times in 2014 when she turned 90.
