TAG art competition render ‘paw-some’ results
TAG Artful Paws competition attracts creative works from locals
The Animal Guardians’ (TAG) Artful Paws competition has drawn to a close, receiving 263 entries.
The competition formed part of the organisation’s ongoing fundraising projects with rescues and budding artists collaborating to create ‘meow-ster’ pieces.
The assignment was simple, rescued animals homed at TAG had their paws dipped in animal-friendly paint and trotted across sheets of canvas.
Entrants received the sheets and had to use them to create colourful art pieces that will be auctioned.
“We were blown away by the entries we received,” said TAG’s Annie Jungmann.
“The entries were creative and in many aspects very technical. Entries in the teen category were especially brilliant.”
Riquel Brown (11) of Fairleads won the teen category with her piece called Loli.
“We adopted my first pet from TAG in 2017 and she has brought so much love into my life,” said the Farrarmere Primary learner.
“When entries opened, I took some pictures of Loli who was homed at TAG and decided to draw her as she looked so loving. She was the perfect art subject.”
The young artist, who enjoys realism and anime took her time to capture Loli’s gentle nature, hoping that should her piece be auctioned, it will find its way onto someone’s wall that loves animals as much as Riquel and the staff of TAG do.
“Animals are such special beings and once you have felt a dog’s love, you have experienced love in its truest form,” she said.
Details for the art auction will become available soon and the funds raised will assist TAG in its daily operational costs.
