Measels immunisation roll-out gains momentum
Increased protection will stop the spread of the disease.
To date, 120 000 children from six months to 15 years have received immunisations to curb the spread of measles throughout the Ekurhuleni Metro.
The Gauteng Department of Health aims to inoculate four million children by the end of March, but this is only possible through parental consent.
“Measles is a highly contagious respiratory infection that causes a rash and other flu-like symptoms,” said metro spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini.
“The longer parents and guardians delay signing consent forms to have their children immunised during school visits or to take children to nearby clinics, the more rampant the spread of measles will be.”
It is further encouraged that children who have already been inoculated at six months have a booster shot administered.
