Online fundraising makes social responsibility easier
Creating an online fundraising initiative is only a click away.

In 2001 the Humanstate Group founded the GivenGain non-profit foundation, which has assisted donors and fundraisers in 194 countries to benefit charities in 70 countries.
The idea is simple – enable global philanthropy by providing a state-of-the-art web-based platform and payment processing, thus assisting fundraising initiatives registered by innovative and passionate facilitators.
“The platform enables public events like running and cycling races and their participants to fundraise for charities of their choice,” said Jannie Smith of GivenGain.
“Throughout the year, local heroes swim, cycle and run great distances and perform other remarkable feats.
“Backed by the power of online fundraising, they can support their favourite charities easily and effectively.”
Initiatives backed by GivenGain included The Flying Mullets’ attempt, late last year, to swim across the choppy waters of the Zanzibar Channel.
They completed the 36 km distance in 13 hours, raising nearly R277 000 for HospiceWits through this free online fundraising platform.
Other success stories include Girls Supporting Girls.
In September, last year, a Grade Nine learner, Amy Macaskill, set out on a 90km walk along the Klaserie River.
She raised R107 748 with funds that will be used by the Eco Children Bursary Programme to allow one underprivileged girl to attend Southern Cross Schools in Hoedspruit, offering the beneficiary the opportunity to reach her full potential.
“There are infinite ways to initiate community-driven fundraisers. Run a race, pledge your birthday, speed run a video game, let donors pick your next hair colour, anything goes,” said Smith.
“With our wide-reaching online fundraiser, you can contribute to something bigger than yourself.
“Simply create your online fundraising project for your favourite charity and you’re ready to start changing the world.”
