Authors capture the history of Daveyton in interesting new book
Matedi Mothibe and Arnold Letwaba went through five years of research to finally publish the book Amaqhawe ase Daveyton.
A captivating history book titled Amaqhawe Ase Daveyton, written by Matedi Mothibe and Arnold Letwaba, was reviewed on July 29 at Brima Cafe in Daveyton.
Capturing the rich history of Daveyton, Mothibe and Letwaba explained that they have been working on the book for five years doing proper research on all the iconic people featured in the book.
“Fourteen key role players were involved in the development of the township and therefore our core focus,” said Mothibe.
The authors expressed how they did not feel right to exclude women in the book.

“We will be releasing the second series soon which will cover some of the iconic women in history from Daveyton,” said Letwaba.
The two history teachers realised in class that their learners do not know much of their local heroes, that was when they took it upon themselves to write a book based on the area.
“We hope this book will not only educate our youngsters but also people that have never heard of the township. This also leaves a legacy for generations to come and we value the essence our book brings to the community and the world,” said Mothibe.
All attendees received a copy of Amaqhawe ase Daveyton.

After the launch, those in attendance were taken to some of the iconic areas of Daveyton, including Sinaba Stadium and Rhoo Hlatshwayo Art Centre.
“Many people do not know that the area is full of an alluring history. We have so many iconic people that are now famous but the community does not know what influence that growth and determination had on these dusty streets of our kasi Daveyton,” said tour guide Brian Dubazane.
Dubazane explained the history of the attractions as they moved from one to the next.
At Sinaba Stadium, he explained how they named the streets, local heroes.
“All our iconic people have either a street or a school named after them. Their names will forever be known but people need to know their history as well. Books like this helps us with such knowledge,” he said.
