Local branch shines on national level

Two SAAFA members received awards during the associations annual congress.

East Rand branch members of the South African Air Force Association (SAAFA), were recognised for their invaluable service at the recent annual national congress.

Members recently convened in Gqeberha, to celebrate the association’s 78th congress, giving members from across the country time to explore the seaside town while sharing stories of yore as well as ideas to further grow membership.

SAAFA offers those who have served in the Air Force or are still working within the aviation industry the opportunity to meet with like-minded individuals, who prefer soaring through the clouds than having their feet on terra firma.

However, its core function is to assist former airmen and women with financial and emotional support.

Joey and Roelf Rossouw (East Rand branch of SAAFA).

At this year’s event, two local members received awards while a loyal supporter of the branch was also honoured.

Branch chairman Roelf Rossouw was awarded the association’s silver award for long and distinguished exceptional service, while his wife, Joey, received the Presidential Merit Award, which is awarded to members for commendable service.

Non-member but supporter of the association, Felix Gosher was awarded a certificate of merit for arranging the Elders and Children’s Flight at the Brakpan Airfield, in April, allowing those less fortunate to enjoy the thrill of flight.

SAAFA meets on the third Friday of every month at Tino Cucina and Griglia at the Benoni Country Club.
