Pup saved from awful fate

Following five weeks of extensive care, the pup is now fit to be rehomed.

Adara, an eight-week-old shepherd-cross, will soon be released into the care of her new owner after a five-week recovery period at The Animal Guardians (TAG).

At the beginning of August, an employee at Crazy Pets, Boksburg, rushed the severely burnt puppy to TAG for urgent treatment.

According to the shelter’s Annie Jungmann, allegedly, a homeless man took the animal to the retailer seeking medical assistance.

On August 1, a severely burnt pup was brought to TAG for urgent medical care.

“Immediately, Adara was taken to our veterinarian for treatment. Given the extent of her injuries, we suspect someone threw boiling water over her,” said Jungmann.

“Her skin was blistered, and her eyes were swollen shut. She was released into our care.”

In the following weeks, the pup was closely monitored, with Katie O’Neill patiently tending to her wounds.

“She must have been in immense pain. However, she exuded a fighting spirit from the get-go,” said O’Neill.

“She had a healthy appetite and, despite the injuries, started displaying typical playful puppy traits. She is just the cutest little thing.”

Initially, the TAG team could not identify the breed, with some supporters of the organisation stating she bore a remarkable resemblance to funnyman Danny DeVito.

“When her hair started growing, and she developed a little more body, there was no denying her breed, although her ears are a little lop-sided. They lay flat on her head like a bow,” said O’Neill.

Requiring intensive care, the pup’s hair started growing, with some likening her appearance to Danny DeVito.

Jungmann thanked the kind-hearted individuals who saved Adara and brought her to the shelter for care.

“She would have suffered a terrible fate if it weren’t for their swift action,” she said.

“We cannot wait to see her leave the facility with her new family.”
