Hicks wins August angling competition

The next competition is on October 21 at Klein Roslee on the Vaal Dam.

Malcom Hicks caught a total of 28 fish weighing 32.62kg to win the Elands Angling Club’s monthly angling competition, at Poortjie Resort on the Vaal Dam, on August 19.

The angler took his points tally for the competition to 606.2.

Marius Redelinghuys claimed runner-up honours with a bag of 19 fish totaling 13.98kg, taking him to 309.8 points in the competition.

Schalk Uys was in third place after catching 14 fish weighing 10.8kg. That took him to 248.05 points.

A total of 179 fish were caught by the 19 competing anglers and club secretary Tommie Veldman caught the smallmouth yellowfish weighing 0.875kg, which was the species of the day.

“It turned out to be a beautiful day and with spring around the corner, we had a good attendance of 19 anglers ready for a good day of bank angling,” said Veldman.

The club holds the competition on the third Saturday of each month and is affiliated to the Central Gauteng Freshwater Bank Angling Association, an affiliate of the South African Freshwater Bank Angling Federation.

The next competition is on October 21 at Klein Roslee on the Vaal Dam. Visitors are welcome.
