Concentrated operations by members of the police’s Rapid Response Services (RRS) across Gauteng led to the arrest of 100 suspects between September 22 and 28.
The Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol participated in the operations.
According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the spokesperson for the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS), they made 50 arrests on charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of vehicle and house-breaking implements, pointing a firearm, robbery, armed robbery, malicious damage to property, hijacking, theft, possession of suspected stolen property and shoplifting.
During the blitz, they recovered 31 stolen and hijacked vehicles, accompanied by 22 arrests for being in possession of these vehicles.
In addition, 12 suspects were arrested for being in possession of unlicenced firearms and 11 weapons were seized.
Further policing saw the arrest of 16 suspects for drug possession with the intention to sell.
The law enforcers confiscated heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine.
