Rapper to release five-track EP

“My music is my diary. It’s a story of my life.”

Sporting her distinct face mask and armed with great verses, flow and delivery, the charismatic Benoni South rapper Sonneke Pypers, better known by her stage name Mystiq the Mysterious, will wow hip-hop heads when she releases her EP on November 20.

The EP features five tracks with songs like I miss your mom and As Jy Wil Spat, which she believes is going to be a hit. She has also featured up-and-coming Cape-Town rapper Towwa in one of the songs in the EP.

The wordsmith began her artistry with poetry in her formative years which enabled her to become a great storyteller and to write strong and inspirational bars.

She has already release a single that’s available on all digital platforms.

She said the American superstar and one of the greatest artists of all time, Eminem, was a great influence on her and like him, she wants to use her talent to inspire her fans.

“I want to inspire my fans to believe in themselves and to never allow anyone to pull them down,” she said.

The 43-year-old’s Mystiq the Mysterious character was born on the streets of the Germiston informal settlement of Makause, where she lived for two years.

She explained that it was during her stay in Makause that she found herself and that the residents’ positive outlook on life, despite socio-economic conditions, evoked a deep nostalgia for her happy childhood days.

“I stayed on the streets of Primrose for six months until I met someone from Makause who helped me. That’s how I found myself. I stayed there for two years. I had a family. We stuck together. My poetry inspired a lot of people there and that’s how Mystiq the Mysterious was born.”

The EP consists of five tracks.

About her mask, she said it represented the masks that we often wear to hide our true emotions.

“An abuser wears a mask to hide their abusive ways and their victims also wear masks to hide their pain. We all wear masks to hide something.”

Pypers said her purpose is to make a difference through her music by helping those disadvantaged to overcome their fears.

“My music is my diary. It’s a story of my life.”
