‘Butcher of Benoni’ launches second book
Gordan said these memoirs have been part of a healing process he has undergone.
“I’m not writing books to make money. They are a legacy for my descendants. I want them to know my story, not the ‘Butcher of Benoni’ version.”
Saying this at the launch of his second book on December 7, Dr Luke Gordon added, however, that he is happy to ‘own’ this gruesome label given to him by the media.
Gordon, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who ran the Metamorphosis Clinic in Lakefield from the early 2000’s, was struck off the roll by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in July 2020.
The then Rynfield resident was dubbed the ‘Butcher of Benoni’ by the media following numerous complaints to the HPCSA about botched surgeries, one of which involved a man losing his leg after Gordon did calf implants.

Gordon believes “enemies” within the medical and legal fraternity were responsible for what transpired at the HPCSA. He refers to a specific doctor he believes is responsible for his downfall as a psychopath.
“It was not clients who led to me being struck off the roll, losing my livelihood and being disgraced in the media. My enemies meant business; I know they even wanted me to commit suicide,” he said.
The defamed surgeon is a motivational speaker today and hustles in other respects to earn a living.
He has released two books, the second of which was launched at Benoni Northerns Sports Club on December 7.
The first book is titled Unbutchered: Dehumanising a Plastic Surgeon and the latest offering is titled A Fish Rots from the Head Down – Exposing HPCSA Corruption.
Gordon said these memoirs have been part of a healing process he has undergone. His books are self-published.

When questioned about the naming and shaming in his second book of people he believes to be involved in corruption at the HPCSA, Gordan said: “They are welcome to take me on; the book is the truth.”
He added, however, that he does believe he needs to watch his back and have eyes in the back of his head.
The experience has taught him many life lessons.
“This too shall pass, is one of them. No matter how bad things are, the sun will always rise. You need to forge through the hard times. I am stronger now. I survived.
“Other life lessons are that the best revenge is don’t become like them, and remember you are stronger than you think. You can survive a psychopath.
“I have chosen to own the ‘Butcher of Benoni’ label, but am now telling my truth.”
