Boyfriend allegedly kills lover then hangs himself

A swarm of flies and a foul odour led the suspect’s family to the woman’s dead body in their son’s backroom.

The body of a 33-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in a veld in Benoni on February 3 after he had allegedly strangled his 23-year-old girlfriend to death a few days prior in his room in Chris Hani, Daveyton.

The man’s family discovered the woman’s body on January 30 after noticing swarms of flies on the window and a foul smell coming from the room.

According to the SAPS Ekurhuleni district communication officer, Captain Nelda Sekgobela, officers working at the Client Service Centre (CSC) received a complaint about a body on Pollo Street.

“When officers arrived at the scene, they found a young woman lying naked and face down on the bed. They contacted medical emergency services, who declared the woman deceased.

“It was revealed that the cause of death was strangulation.”

Sekgobela said preliminary investigations also revealed that the deceased was allegedly seen with her boyfriend on January 28 at about 16:45.

“Suicide notes written by the boyfriend were found inside the room, which stated that he killed his lover and was also going to take his own life,” said Sekgobela.
