Organisation cleans around Northerns Swimming Pool

“When a sense of community hits our veins, there is no stopping us."

The Benoni Northerns Swimming Pool and its pavement were left looking immaculate after a clean-up event led by the Homestead Helpers on March 2.

This event followed the successful cleaning of the Benoni Central Swimming Pool last month where the NPO, the Heart of Benoni, Avenues Residents Association and community members, united to give a face-lift to the once picturesque facility.

Motivated and entertained by the melodic sounds of the Benoni High Pipe Band, community members trimmed the grass on the pavement outside the facility and tidied the area surrounding the pool. They also repainted the railings along the pool as well as the gutters, butler doors and poles along the fence.

They were joined by learners from Pinnacle College and City of Ekurhuleni staff members, including the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture head, Zanele Katembo.

“We had a heart-warming morning. We want to thank Pinnacle College for supporting our initiative. As long as what we do, we do with love and join in our hearts, we are making a difference to our country,” said Homestead Helpers’ Jacqui Keel.

She explained seeing the people in attendance, including the CoE officials, indicated they are making an impact and that their efforts to change the image of Benoni are noticed by the community.

She said she was left satisfied by the humility displayed by Teri de Beer for sponsoring them with equipment and the CoE’s pool superintendent Sabelo Gumbi, as well as parents from Pinnacle, for their contribution towards food for their staff.

Community members joined the Homestead Helpers to clean the Benoni Northerns Swimming Pool.

“The Benoni High Pipe Band blessed us with an emotional and heart-warming show of thanks by doing a walk around the pool. It really showed us that the work we do is worth it. They had us all teary-eyed.

“When a sense of community hits our veins, there is no stopping us. Benoni is filled with generous, loving and caring people. May God bless Benoni and all her people,” she said.
