WATCH: Streets of Northmead go barking mad for Spayathon
At least 300 people and their pets supported the walk.
On the cool morning of Human Rights Day (March 21), families, individuals and their furry friends headed to the Benoni Northerns Sports Club to support The Animal Guardian’s (TAG) Spayathon.
It was an exciting experience for all who attended and a tail-wagging affair for the doggies.
Benonians expressed their love for their pets, who waggled their tails to indicate their joy.

According to Bernice Piveteau, the club captain, about 300 participants and 100 animals contributed to the R30 000 raised on the day.
“The event aimed to raise funds for stray, neglected and abandoned animals from underprivileged areas and promote pet adoption.
“The walk was a huge success. The turnout was great, even though it was a public holiday,” said Piveteau.
She thanked one of their sponsors, Supervet, and other donors who made the Spayathon a success.

On the trail, the Benoni City Times spoke to Sonnete van der Nermee, who was with her furry friend Neshoma, whom she adopted from TAG in January.
“Adopting Neshoma was the best thing I have done this year,” she said.
Another pet lover who encourages adoption, Jenny Rees-Gibbs, said: “I think adoption is a good act because these animals spend years in shelters and are neglected. Through adoption, at least, that’s where they find a loving home.”
Regular participants of the Spayathon, Jessica Oberholzer and Ann Botle, who have supported this initiative since its inception, were also spotted this year.
Annie Jungmann of TAG thanked some of their headline sponsors, Benoni Northerns, Robin House, Tenacious Pets, K-9 Academy, Bicycle Line and everyone who attended.
