Benonians help blood services achieve goal

The 5 0000 units of blood campaign - known as one day, one nation, 5 000 units of blood – was started by the WCBS, together with the SANBS.

The Sheridan Centre in Farrarmere was a hive of activity as Benonians responded to the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) and SANBS’ call for assistance to collect 5 000 units of blood on April 13.

The tent was packed with donors while others queued up outside, waiting for their turn to make a difference by saving a life.

First-time donor Desiree Stubbs was happy to donate.

First-time donor Desiree Stubbs from Lakefield said she would have started donating earlier but never found the time, adding she was happy to play her part in saving lives.

Stubbs was joined by her friend, Christine Tod, who also donated for the first time.

The SANBS was joined by several stakeholders including CMS and a local church.

The 5 0000 units of blood campaign – known as one day, one nation, 5 000 units of blood – was started by the WCBS, together with the SANBS, in an effort to rally South Africans to help them achieve 5 000 blood units in one day.

Around 50 malls across the country joined the initiative and South Africans responded positively to help both blood services to stock leading to the winter months, where they anticipate blood stock shortages.
