SAPS arrest copper cable theft suspects in Daveyton

The police station welcomes the arrest of the alleged perpetrators.

The SAPS recently arrested three men in Daveyton for possession of copper cables valued at about R25 000.

Officers followed up on information about cables being stolen on Hlakwana Street at around 03:00, according to Daveyton SAPS spokesperson Constable Ntando Ngomane.

“On arrival, they saw a group of men standing beside a truck and two bakkies. When the police approached them, some men fled on foot, while one got into a bakkie and sped off.

“Three others, one of them the truck driver, remained near the cable, and when questioned, one said he was working with the police.

The police then drove the three suspects, the truck and the bakkie to the Daveyton SAPS.

“Several cables, valued at about R25 000, a ladder, spades and construction cones were found and booked as exhibits,” said Ngomane.

The trio were detained at the Daveyton SAPS and have appeared in court.
