BFS takes drugs off streets

The unit remains committed to stamping out crime.

The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) brought three suspected drug dealers to book on June 10.

According to Warrant Officer Grant Giblin, the BFS spokesperson, they made the two arrests in Kempton Park and Ivory Park.

“At 12:30, BFS members were conducting routine operations in Kempton Park when they noticed a white Toyota Hilux with two occupants acting suspiciously,” he said.

“They brought the vehicle to a stop at the corners of High and Pomona roads, where officers initiated a search of it. They found three large bags of dagga, with an estimated value of R40 000, on the back of the vehicle.

These men were arrested on charges of possession of drugs with the intent to sell. They were found with dagga worth an estimated R40 000.

“The occupants, aged 42 and 43, were arrested and the vehicle impounded because it was used in the commission of crime.”

At 17:30, concerned members of the community stopped the patrolling BFS officers, claiming a 29-year-old man was selling drugs from his home in the Mamtolo informal settlement, Ivory Park.

“Upon arrival at the suspect’s residence, the officers conducted a search and found him in possession of six Mandrax tablets, broken in half.”

All three suspects will face charges of possession of drugs with the intent to sell.
