Jones to again lead the pride

Jones will turn her attention to growing the club’s membership.

Jane Jones has once again been tasked with leading the Benoni Lions Club.

She was inducted as the club president for the second consecutive year in Lakefield, on July 20.

Combining her outgoing and incoming address with a room packed with devoted Lions, friends and family, she said the past Lionistic year was filled with activities, fun, laughs and some tears.

“It was a memorable year during which we worked tirelessly to support and aid community members,” she said.

Jane Jones was inducted as the Benoni Lions Club president for the second consecutive year.

“I am proud to say we achieved all five pillars of service, which had a positive impact on the lives of those who benefitted from these projects.”

Outlining some of the club’s projects, Jones said members distributed seedlings and eco-bricks to assist communities in establishing vegetable gardens, thus being able to secure sustainable food sources.

“We strapped on hairnets and tamed our sweet tooth while we assisted CHOC in selling cupcakes in its efforts to raise funds for those living with childhood cancer,” she said.

“In addition, we created 200 Jars of Hope, which fed approximately 800 individuals.

“Our activities further stretched beyond our area of service when we partnered with The Humanity Foundation and 100% Foundation to ensure Albert Luthuli School’s newly established library was stocked with books.

“We also supplied the Daveyton school with a printer to assist learners with their studies and projects.

She said the club’s successes could be attributed to the willingness of its members to assist.

“I value every member’s contribution throughout the year and thank you for your unwavering support in line with the Lions charter,” she said.

“Taking everyone’s efforts into account was like flipping through countless cherished memories.

“Kathy Nel is a true Lion at heart. She is always the first to volunteer, often putting her needs last. It is an honour to award her with the Lion of the Year award.”

Considering the coming year, Jones said she will endeavour to increase membership while committing to various fundraising efforts.

“Most importantly, I want to see members growing into their full potential and having fun throughout.”
