EMPD nab two

The two men are facing charges of fraud and contravening the Immigration Act.

The EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit officers recently intercepted a 31-year-old undocumented immigrant and a 50-year-old man in possession of a fraudulent licence disc in Benoni.

According to the EMPD’s spokesperson, Kelebogile Thepa, the 31-year-old delivery motorcyclist was taken to the Benoni Police Station after officers discovered he was a Malawian national without a valid passport.

The officers immediately notified immigration services.

The undocumented driver that was apprehended in Benoni.

On the same day, officers stopped a green Toyota Venture in Harper Avenue and on questioning the driver and checking the vehicle on the NaTIS system, the officers discovered that the roadworthy certificate and licence disc were unregistered and fraudulent.

“When he failed to provide satisfactory answers about where he obtained his vehicle documents, the man was arrested,” said Thepa.

The two men are facing charges of fraud and contravening the Immigration Act, respectively.
