Security guards arrested for impersonating police officers
The suspects’ luxury SUV war illegally fitted with flashing blue lights.
Two security guards from an Alberton-based company were arrested just after 13:00 on August 6, following a high speed chase.
According to the Fredrick Koen, of NoJack Vehicle Tracking, a radio call was transmitted claiming that law enforcement officers were in pursuit of a black BMW X3, illegally using flashing blue lights, with the driver refusing to bring the vehicle to a stop.
“Along with DOT Towing and Recovery we offered assistance and the vehicle, which was travelling towards Daveyton, was successfully boxed in and brought to a stop,” said Koen.
A search of the vehicle was conducted upon which a firearm was found. The suspects could not produce supporting documents for the firearm.
Both the vehicle and the firearm have been handed in as evidence and the duo face charges of illegal possession of a firearm, illegal use of blue lights and impersonating police officers.
Investigations into the matter are underway to establish whether the men could be linked to the notorious ‘blue-light gang’ which have allegedly committed numerous armed robberies as hijackings on the province’s major highways.
