Indians conclude “unforgettable” season on a high

The Redskins won the Major A League while the Wichita won the Major B League.

The Benoni Indians Redskins won the Gauteng Province Baseball Council (GPBC) Major League A Cup in a one-sided final against the Randburg Mets.

The Redskins dominated the Mets to clinch the trophy with a 14-4 victory on the main diamond at Benoni Northerns Sports Club on September 1.

“This illustrated the Redskins’ prowess both offensively and defensively. The performance left fans and opponents alike in awe, marking a proud moment for the entire Benoni Indians organisation,” said Benoni Indians seniors chairman Jerry Pieterse.

The final day of the season included eight matches at Benoni Northerns, including a nail-biting Major League B Cup final, where the Benoni Sioux was undone with a single point by the Mustangs when they narrowly lost 12-11 for runner-up honours.

Despite a successful season, the Giants suffered a heavy defeat of 15-2 in the hands of the unbeaten Valhalla in the ladies’ final.

The Wichita clinched the Major B League title with a 13-1 record as the Indians ended the season successfully.

The Redskins’ Brandon Bouillon was named top hitter, Damon King the top pitcher and Corbin Greenslade best catcher in the Major A league.

The Wichita’s Matthew Pudule was named the Major B League’s MVP while his teammate, Dean de Beer notched the top pitcher and the Sioux’s Liam Pieterse clinched the top catcher award.
