Dr. Shezi takes the helm as Acting CEO of Tambo Memorial Hospital, promising a renewed focus on patient care and innovation.
Dr Khulekani Shezi has officially stepped into the role of acting CEO at Tambo Memorial Hospital (TMH), effective October 1.
This appointment comes as the hospital transitions leadership following the departure of previous CEO Zenzo Ndabula.
According to the spokeperson for the hospital, Zoliswa Nzeku, Shezi’s journey in healthcare began in 2013 when he joined the Gauteng Department of Health as a medical officer intern at Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital.
“His exceptional performance during this time earned him the title of best medical intern in 2014, marking the start of a promising career.
“By 2016, he had secured a permanent position as a medical officer specialising in internal medicine at the same institution. His leadership skills were further recognised when he became clinical manager at Far East Rand
Hospital in 2020, before returning to TMH in 2021 in a similar capacity,” said Nzeku.
Shezi holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Walter Sisulu University and a Bachelor of Science in Micro Biotechnology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
He also possesses a master’s degree in Business Administration from Wits Business School and has completed the management advancement programme there, equipping him with both clinical and administrative expertise.
In his first statement as acting CEO, Shezi emphasised the profound responsibility inherent in healthcare: “The healthcare sector is a field where we are entrusted with caring for one of God’s most precious creations, human life. This calls for full commitment, built on a foundation of skills, knowledge, and daily dedication.”
He underscored the importance of continuous learning and innovation to enhance patient care quality.
