FOLLOW-UP: Kleinfontein water problem identified

Lack of resources are blamed for work not being completed in the affected area.

After eight weeks of having low to no water, City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) spokesperson Zweli Dlamini has confirmed that the water crisis plaguing businesses in the Kleinfontein Lake Office Park in Lakeview Crescent has been identified.

Desperately seeking answers regarding the water interruption which has left about 15 businesses, including the metro’s Department of Housing offices, without water since August 15, Debbie Engelbrecht, office manager for Almac Farm Management, reached out to the Benoni City Times.

“We have logged countless complaints with the CoE yet, it seems that the matter is not receiving the necessary attention,” said Engelbrecht.

“Businesses are incurring additional costs by having to purchase safe drinking water for staff and while carting containers around for hygiene purposes. It is ridiculous to say the least.”

According to Dlamini, investigations into the matter had been conducted where it was found that a blockage in the water line was affecting supply to the area.

“The presence of bitumen lining and debris have been found in the pipe thus, causing low water pressure,” he said.

“The water issues were attended timeously, however, work by the department of water and sanitation has been delayed due to the unavailability of a special fitting used to cut and join the water pipe in order to flush the system.

“We are however happy to confirm that the fitting was received and the matter was resolved on October 17. Water supply to the area has returned to normal.”
