Learners wish matriculants all the best

The Benoni City Times wish the class of 2024 all the best with upcoming final exams.

Twelve years of formal education have led to this moment.

In September, Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube announced that 732 448 full-time candidates were enrolled for the National Senior Certificate (NSC), set to begin today.

While the Class of 2024 sit chained to their books in preparation for the exams, which will run until November 28, the Grade 11 learners from Hoërskool Brandwag wish the city’s matrics all the best.

“Many view matric as the end of a chapter, with the final exams being the last hurdle that needs conquering,” said the 2025 deputy head boy of marketing, Ruben Croucamp.

“The next six weeks are not the end but the start of a new journey in your adult life. You are creating the launch pad for your future through dedication and hard work. Study and revise while breathing life into your dreams.”

Speaking of the mental and emotional stress her peers might be facing, Mea White, the school’s incoming head girl, says trusting the process is crucial.

“Every matriculant is overwhelmingly aware of the importance of the continuous efforts they have made to prepare to the best of their ability,” said White.

“Focus on one subject at a time.”

Straightening his blazer that glistens with pins outlining his high school achievements, 2025 head boy Wian Riekert says while academic preparation is of the utmost importance, matrics must also find balance.

“No one has come to this point of their school career alone. Make time, put your books aside and surround yourself with those who love and care for you,” Riekert said.

“In the examination hall, it is all up to you, but throughout the preparation process, you need the support of your loved ones.”

Drawing inspiration from a message delivered during assembly, Marli Botes, the deputy head girl for marketing, said faith should be the cornerstone at this time.

“Study like you are not going to pray, and pray like you haven’t studied,” she said.

“The exams might feel like a crushing weight on your shoulders, but face every aspect with courage, taking one step at a time.”
