The Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) and the Gauteng SAPS Rapid Response Services (RRS) were in action between October 18 and 27, bringing criminals to book:
Shoplifting
Officers arrested a 45-year-old at a clothing store at the Festival Mall, Kempton Park, on October 22 for allegedly stealing perfume.
Arrests
Officers arrested four men aged 33 to 46 on the N12 on October 21.
A local private security company requested help after a white Toyota Starlet travelling on Atlas Road was flagged as wanted. After a brief chase, they brought the vehicle to a stop.
It was allegedly used during a September robbery in Daveyton.
Possession of drugs
The law enforcers arrested a 38-year-old man at the Daveyton Taxi Rank after finding him with 30 small bags of dagga on October 24. The value of the drugs is about R500.
RRS
Flying Squad, Highway Patrol and K9 units, which fall under the RRS banner, arrested 98 suspects and recovered one unlicensed firearm, across Gauteng.
Participating in various concentrated operations, they arrested 39 people on charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, armed robbery, robbery, fraud, theft, the possession of stolen property, house break-in, rape, murder, perjury, use of a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, damage to property, kidnapping, contravening a protection order, contravening the Immigration Act, shoplifting, bribery, defeating the ends of justice, possession of illicit cigarettes, theft of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Officers recovered 62 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, with 19 accompanying arrests.
Further policing led to the arrest of 40 suspects on charges of being in possession of drugs with the intention to sell. Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and meth were confiscated.
Abandoned vehicles
• A blue Hero motorcycle was recovered on Bluegum Street, Ivory Park, reported as stolen in Douglasdale.
• A white Hyundai Tucson was found in Minanawe Ext 5, Putfontein. The vehicle was reported as hijacked in Ratanda, Heidelberg.
• A white Mercedes Benz Actros was recovered in Chloorkop. It was reported as stolen in Alberton.
• A white Renault Kwid was found on Ebony Street, Birch Acres. It was reported stolen in Norkem Park.
