Benoni Northerns Athletic Club (BNAC) runner Robyn Pheiffer clocked a new personal milestone in the 21.1km when she clinched the women’s aQuelle Jacaranda City Challenge half-marathon in Pretoria on November 9.
Pheiffer crossed the line in 01:28:40 to win the race, beating Bedfordview AC’s Angela Temlett, who clocked 01:30:48 for second place. Jenni Kruse of Ubora Central Gauteng completed the top three in 01:31:57.
“My coach, Mark Dingle, and I discussed a pace for the day and keeping to that race strategy. The plan was to start conservatively and build from there to get faster as the race progressed.
“I was able to do that and felt good after 8km. I started to get into a rhythm. I was so focused on feeling good and sticking to a comfortable pace, I didn’t realise I was leading until the end of the race,” she said.
After achieving her PB, the runner would now focus on achieving more goals next year.

“It was a good race, and I was happy to achieve a new PB for that distance. It is a good way to end the year of racing and start prepping for 2025.”
Pheiffer’s teammate, Nadia Emslie, finished the half-marathon in fifth place overall and fourth in her category after crossing the line in 01:36:41.
Jessica Vermaas clocked 01:45:20 for 12th in her category. She was 21st overall.
Con Roux was seventh in the men’s 70 and above race in 02:23:02, and Sue Holden clocked 03:13:07 for fifth in the women’s 70+ race.
Signa Gustafson was seventh in the women’s 70+ race. She finished the race at 01:31:31.
Bright Mikolongwe was seventh in the men’s marathon. He finished the race in 02:34:08.
