Those committed to working with victims of gender-based violence have added their voices to the fight to bring an end to abuse of vulnerable men, women and children.
The annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign ends on International Human Rights Day (December 10).
Sergeant Salmina Mosoane of the Benoni SAPS Social Crime Prevention Unit and station spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele: “When we empower women, we empower humanity! During these 16 Days of Activism, let's amplify the voices of survivors, support organisations working towards gender equality and demand an end to violence against women and children.”
LifeLine East Rand chief social worker, Precious Khoza: We are are encouraging 365 days of no violence against women and children. Sixteen days are not enough, our commitment is to help victims become surviours.
Director of Benoni Child Welfare, Vanessa Carelse: “We need to unite to create a safer, more compassionate world. Let's stand against all forms of abuse, speak out and support those in need. Together we can break the cycle of abuse and violence.”
Duduzile Malinga, social worker at Neo e Bonolo NPO: “Break the silence. Whether you are a victim, neighbour or have witnessed any form of violence meted out against women or children, speak so that we can break the cycle of violence.”
Lieutenant Colonel Cecile Veldman, commander of the Benoni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS): “We want to send a strong message that GBV cases reported in Benoni will not be tolerated. We are dedicated and committed to ensure that all cases are thoroughly investigated in a sensitive and professional manner, thus working to ensure that tough sentences are secured against perpetrators.”
