LETTER: Happy 90th birthday Oom Hennie

"May your life continue to be blessed."

Annetjie (Boshoff) Nuyts, Northmead, writes:
My uncle, Hendrik Boshoff, known to many as Oom Hennie, has lived in Benoni for more than 70 years and celebrates his 90th birthday on December 10.

Hendrik and his wife raised four children in Cypress Street, Northmead, where he still resides.

Despite the passing of his beloved wife, his two sons and one of his daughters, his strong faith and humble nature kept him grounded through life’s trials and tribulations.

Keeping busy, the former head flight attendant still plays the guitar in a band alongside his brother.

A lot of residents in the Northmead area will recognise him as the old man walking with his cane between Cypress Street (where he lives) and Angelier Street, where I live.

Being one of three children, he was my dad’s brother and he regularly still visits me.

Although his vision, hearing and memory are steadily fading, Oom Hennie is an active grandfather and great-granddad to his granddaughter, five grandsons and five great-grandkids, with whom he enjoys spending time with.
