Benoni belting powerhouse opens state-of-the-art R&D centre
The newly opened centre will enable the company to develop bespoke solutions for its clients.
Dunlop Belting Products, in Lincoln Road, Benoni South, recently launched its ground-breaking Research and Development Centre.
As the largest manufacturer of conveyor belts on the African continent, the new addition to its 57 000m² production hub, a state-of-the-art facility, represents a bold step forward in driving excellence, sustainability and transformation within the industry.

The investment of over R20m will support ongoing innovation in specialised heavy-duty industrial conveyor belts.
“The newly opened centre will enable the company to develop bespoke solutions for its clients while upholding its commitment to excellence while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety,” said CEO Mbuso Thabethe.

“Equipped to conduct stress testing in line with South African Bureau of Standards requirements, the facility will also utilise advanced technologies such as AI, IoT, as well as innovative materials to improve product efficiency and durability.”
Through collaboration with leading universities, research institutions and key industry players, the centre further aims to remain at the forefront of global trends while contributing to economic development in Benoni, and beyond.
“Sustainability is at the core of this initiative, with a strong focus on eco-friendly designs and manufacturing practices that minimise waste and energy consumption,” he said.

“Our organisation has deep roots in the city and remains a critical employer in the region, employing over 650 individuals, 55% of whom are youth.
“We are not only drivers of local job creation but focus on enhancing skills development in the manufacturing sector.”
Thabethe said the centre marks the next chapter in the manufacturers’ journey toward innovation and customer-centricity.
“It is a testament to commitment to advancing technology, meeting the evolving needs of our clients and creating employment.”
