Ekurhuleni Level One water restrictions: No hosepipes 6am to 6pm!

Level One was declared late last month, prompted by increased demand.

The City of Ekurhuleni has Level One water restrictions in place and urges residents to adhere to these to ensure sustainable water supply during the festive period, which is typically marked by increased consumption.

Level One was declared late last month, prompted by increased demand, which has led to low levels in Rand Water reservoirs.

“The seasonal high temperatures and recreational needs compound the increased water demand. This leads to low reservoir storage levels and interruption in water supply,” explained CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.

Key aspects of these restrictions include:
• Water gardens only between 18:00 and 06:00 to reduce evaporation losses.

• Use of hosepipes is prohibited to wash cars, water gardens and fill up pools between 06:00 and 18:00.

• Households and businesses are urged to reduce water waste by fixing leaks, using water-efficient appliances and being mindful of daily consumption.

“During the festive season when families often engage in activities that increase water usage, the water saving measures are crucial as the province faces rising temperatures and heightened water demand, which strain the existing water supply.

“The city has taken proactive steps, including reducing water pressure in certain areas at night and prioritising repairs to burst pipes, to minimise losses.

“Residents are encouraged to continue being proactive in reporting leaks and adopting water-saving habits to help mitigate the impact of potential water shortages,” emphasised Dlamini.
