EMPD arrests four in Mayfield after ‘terrorising’ community
The suspects were arrested and taken to Putfontein Police Station.
Members of the EMPD Eastern Region Task Team arrested four men, aged between 26 and 38, on January 8 in Mayfield for possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.
The City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, said the officers received a tip-off about suspects in a white Toyota Avanza with false number plates, terrorising the community of the Mina Nawe informal settlement.
“The officers launched a manhunt and spotted the vehicle with four occupants, including the driver, at the corner of Buffalo and Brazil streets, Mayfield.
“During routine investigations on the vehicle and its occupants, the officers discovered the driver did not have a driver’s license, and the vehicle’s disc was fraudulent,” said Dlamini.
The officers further found two unlicensed 9mm firearms with filed-off serial numbers and seven live rounds of ammunition.
The suspects were arrested and taken to Putfontein Police Station.
Further investigations are underway to determine if additional charges can be pressed against the four men.
