Junior tennis players have good showing
“It was a great tournament for our teams.”

The Gauteng East Tennis Association (GETA) juniors’ chairperson, Karen McRae, was proud of how the province’s junior teams performed in the Tennis South Africa (TSA) interprovincial championships in Bloemfontein and Pretoria from January 9 to 12.
The U13 primary school team headed to the City of Roses and had the twin job of contending with some top-seeded provinces and scorching conditions, with the weather sometimes at 34°C.
The youngsters were third in their round-robin round but ended the competition seventh overall. The highlight of their tournament was upsetting the number two-seeded KZN A team in their last playoff match.

The U15 and U19 teams made the short travel to Pretoria, but intermittent rain often interrupted their tournament, resulting in some of their group matches concluding late at night.

These disruptions didn’t dampen their spirits, and they still flew GETA’s flag high. The U15s finished their group phase fourth and were 13th overall, while the U19 team were third in their group and 11th overall.
“It was a great tournament for our teams. We are proud of them for all their effort. They represented GETA with pride,” said McRae.

Gauteng North grabbed the U13 tournament honours. The Western Cape Daisies were second, and the Western Cape Cavaliers came third.
The Western Cape Cavaliers were the overall U15 winners, with Gauteng Central second and Gauteng North third.
Gauteng Central clinched the U19s trophy, and KZN A grabbed the silver. The Western Cape completed the top three.
