Man rescued from mob justice
The EMPD has urged the public to report crimes to the police and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
A police raincoat and two toy guns were recovered after members of the EMPD First Response Unit rescued a man from mob justice in Zenzele, Mayfield Ext 5, on January 20.
According to City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Zweli Dlamini, the man was rescued by the officers from a mob that had assaulted him after he was caught breaking into a home.
“Officers conducting by-law enforcement noticed a group of people who quickly scattered when they approached, leaving behind a badly injured man and stolen items. The suspect was taken to the Putfontein Police Station and later transported to a healthcare facility under police guard.”
