New school shoes bring joy to Katlego Primary learners

The school shoes brought joy to the learners and beneficiaries of Sekusile Ekhaya Labantwana, an NPO based at the school that supports disadvantaged children.

Kempton Park-based Multotec, in collaboration with O-BASF, recently donated 1396 pairs of school shoes to learners at Katlego Primary School in Daveyton.

Their act of kindness brought joy to the school’s learners and beneficiaries of Sekusile Ekhaya Labantwana, an NPO based at the school that supports disadvantaged children.

Principal Mduduzi Mkansi expressed gratitude for the donation, acknowledging that Sekusile played a key role in identifying the learners’ needs.

“This initiative aligns with former president Nelson Mandela’s vision of a ‘rainbow nation’, a place where people from different backgrounds unite for the greater good, as you have done today,” he said.

Oyewale Akeredolu, head of sales for Sub-Saharan Africa at O-BASF, reaffirmed their company’s commitment to uplifting the communities where they operate.

He explained that the initiative came after visiting local schools, where they discovered that six out of ten learners either had no shoes or wore shoes in poor condition.

“Imagine children coming to school, eager to learn, yet lacking something as basic as a pair of shoes. This donation is more than just footwear, it’s about restoring hope, dignity, and confidence,” said Akeredolu.

He also emphasised the importance of corporate social responsibility, stating, successful companies don’t thrive simply by chasing profit but they focus on creating value and making an impact.

Multotec managing director Bheka Majola described the initiative as a privilege for their company, as it allowed them to reflect on their contribution to society.

Majola said rather than pointing fingers at societal issues, businesses and individuals should actively contribute to positive change.
