Benoni SPCA appoints new general manager

The Benoni SPCA has appointed Martine Hampson as its new general manager, following the resignation of Jacques Cronje in December.
Hampson, who officially stepped into the role on January 2, is no stranger to the organisation. She previously worked for the society from 2019 to 2021, and her return has been met with enthusiasm as she brings with her a wealth of experience in animal welfare.
“I am excited to continue the organisation’s work in ensuring the well-being of neglected, abandoned, and abused animals. I’m here to guide and steer the ship. I like to give staff credit for the work that they do as I believe that as a team we need each other. If one person is missing, the team cannot operate,” she said.
Before transitioning into the field of animal welfare, Hampson worked in the banking industry and as administrative personnel for an engineering company. She said she learned about the vacant managerial position through messages from people who encouraged her to apply.
Hampson’s plans for the future of the Benoni SPCA include ensuring that her two trainee field officers become qualified inspectors, increasing revenue to improve animal care facilities, and enhancing visibility through outreach programmes.
“The response from the public, staff, and committee has been overwhelmingly positive. I’m grateful for the warm welcome, and I’m excited to work together with everyone to make a lasting difference,” she added.
Hampson, a long-time resident of Benoni, is also a proud mother to her rescue dogs, Odin, Trinity, and Coddy.
